حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ السُّورَةَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ ؟ قَالَتْ: الْمُفَصَّلَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا ؟ قَالَتْ: حِينَ حَطَمَهُ النَّاسُ .

I asked Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا whether the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم recited a whole Surah (of the Quran) in one Rak’ah of the prayer. She replied: (He recited from among) the Mufassal surahs. I asked: Did he pray (at night) sitting? She replied: (he prayed sitting) when the people made him old.

میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے پوچھا: کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پوری سورت ایک رکعت میں پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ( ہاں ) مفصل کی، پھر میں نے پوچھا: کیا آپ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا: جس وقت لوگوں ( کے کثرت معاملات ) نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو شکستہ ( یعنی بوڑھا ) کر دیا۔
