I came to Muawiyah رضی اللہ عنہ in Jerusalem. He led us in the Friday prayer. I saw that most of the people in the mosque were the Companions of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. I saw them sitting in ihtiba condition, i.e. sitting on hips erecting the feet and sticking them to the stomach and holding them with hands or tying them with a cloth to the back, while the imam was giving sermon. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Umar رضی اللہ عنہ used to sit in ihtiba position while the imam gave the Friday sermon. Anas bin Malik رضی اللہ عنہ, Shuraih, Sa'sa'ah bin Sawhan, Saeed bin al-Musayyib, Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, Makhul, Ismail, Ismail bin Muhammad bin Saad, and Nu'aim bin Sulamah said: There is no harm in sitting in ihtiba position. Abu Dawud said: I do not know whether anyone considered it disapproved except Ubadah bin Nasayy.

میں معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ بیت المقدس میں حاضر ہوا تو انہوں نے ہمیں جمعہ کی نماز پڑھائی تو میں نے دیکھا کہ مسجد میں زیادہ تر لوگ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب ہیں اور میں نے انہیں امام کے خطبہ دینے کی حالت میں گوٹ مار کر بیٹھے دیکھا۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما بھی امام کے خطبہ دینے کی حالت میں گوٹ مار کر بیٹھتے تھے اور انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ، شریح، صعصہ بن صوحان، سعید بن مسیب، ابراہیم نخعی، مکحول، اسماعیل بن محمد بن سعد اور نعیم بن سلامہ نے کہا ہے کہ اس میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: میری معلومات کی حد تک عبادہ بن نسی کے علاوہ کسی اور نے اس کو مکروہ نہیں کہا ہے۔
