During the time of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and Abu Bakr and Umar رضی اللہ عنہماthe call to the Friday prayer was first made at the time when the imam was seated on the pulpit (for giving the sermon). When the time of Uthman came, and the people became abundant, Uthman رضی اللہ عنہ ordered to make a third call to the Friday prayer. It was made on al-Zaura (a house in Madina). The rule of action continued to the same effect.

نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اور ابوبکر و عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے زمانے میں جمعہ کے دن پہلی اذان اس وقت ہوتی تھی جب امام منبر پر بیٹھ جاتا تھا، پھر جب عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت ہوئی، اور لوگوں کی تعداد بڑھ گئی تو جمعہ کے دن انہوں نے تیسری اذان کا حکم دیا، چنانچہ زوراء پر اذان دی گئی پھر معاملہ اسی پر قائم رہا ۔
