When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم stood for offering the obligatory prayer, he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great) and raised his hands opposite to his shoulders; and he did like that when he finished recitation (of the Quran) and was about to bow; and he did like that when he rose after bowing; and he did not raise his hands in his prayer while he was in his sitting position. When he stood up from his prostrations (at the end of two rak'ahs), he raised his hands likewise and uttered the takbir (Allah is most great) and raised his hands so as to bring them up to his shoulders, as he uttered the takbir in the beginning of the prayer. Abu Dawood said: and it is also reported in the Hadith of Humaid As-sa'idi when he described the prayer of the prophet ﷺ that when he (ﷺ) stood up after two Rak'ahs he would say the takbir, and raise his hands until they reached the level of his shoulders just as he had done at the Takbir at the beginning of the prayer.

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب فرض نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوتے تو تکبیر ( تکبیر تحریمہ ) کہتے اور اپنے دونوں ہاتھ اپنے دونوں کندھوں کے بالمقابل اٹھاتے اور جب اپنی قرآت پوری کر چکتے اور رکوع کرنے کا ارادہ کرتے تو بھی اسی طرح کرتے ( یعنی رفع یدین کرتے ) اور جب رکوع سے اٹھتے تو بھی اسی طرح کرتے ( یعنی رفع یدین کرتے ) اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بیٹھنے کی حالت میں کبھی بھی نماز میں اپنے دونوں ہاتھ نہیں اٹھاتے اور جب دو رکعتیں پڑھ کر ( تیسری ) کے لیے اٹھتے تو اپنے دونوں ہاتھ اسی طرح اٹھاتے ( یعنی رفع یدین کرتے ) اور «الله اكبر» کہتے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: ابوحمید ساعدی رضی اللہ عنہ کی حدیث میں ہے کہ جس وقت انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز کی کیفیت بیان کی تو کہا: جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دونوں رکعتیں پڑھ کر کھڑے ہوتے تو «الله اكبر» کہتے اور اپنے دونوں ہاتھ اٹھاتے ( یعنی رفع یدین کرتے ) یہاں تک کہ انہیں اپنے دونوں کندھوں کے بالمقابل کر لیتے جیسا کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز شروع کرتے وقت «الله اكبر» کہتے وقت کرتے تھے ۔
