Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat) • Hadith 1155

I attended the Eid prayer along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). When he finished the prayer, he said: We shall deliver the sermon; he who likes to sit for listening to it may sit and he who likes to go away may go away. Abu Dawud said: this is a mursal tradition (i.e. the successor 'Ata directly reporting from the Prophet (ﷺ) and omitting the link of the Companions).

میں نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ عید کی نماز دیکھی، جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ’’ہم خطبہ دے رہے ہیں، لہٰذا جو وعظ کے لیے بیٹھنا چاہے وہ بیٹھ جائے اور جو جانا چاہے وہ چلے جائے۔‘‘ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یہ مرسل حدیث عطاء کی سند سے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے مروی ہے۔
