I was in the company of Ibn Umar رضی اللہ عنہما . When the call was made for the noon (zuhr) prayer, he performed ablution and said the prayer. When the call for the afternoon (Asr) prayer was made, he again performed ablution. Thus I asked him (about the reason of performing ablution). He replied: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: For a man who performs ablution in a state of purity, ten virtuous deeds will be recorded (in his favour). Abu Dawud said: This is the tradition narrated by Musaddad, and it is more perfect.

میں عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے پاس تھا، جب ظہر کی اذان ہوئی تو آپ نے وضو کر کے نماز پڑھی، پھر عصر کی اذان ہوئی تو دوبارہ وضو کیا، میں نے ان سے پوچھا ( اب نیا وضو کرنے کا کیا سبب ہے؟ ) انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم فرمایا کرتے تھے: جو شخص وضو پر وضو کرے گا اللہ اس کے لیے دس نیکیاں لکھے گا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یہ مسدد کی روایت ہے اور یہ زیادہ مکمل ہے۔
