حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُخَيْمِرَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ؟ فَقَالَتْ: ائْتِ عَلِيًّا فَسَلْهُ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ مِنِّي، فَأَتَيْتُعَلِيًّا فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَن الْمَسْحِ؟ فَقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَمْسَحَ لِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً، وَلِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ .

I asked 'Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا about wiping over the leather socks and she said: 'Go to 'Ali رضی اللہ عنہ and ask him, for he knows more about that than I do.' So I went to 'Ali رضی اللہ عنہ and asked him about wiping. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah used to tell us that the resident could wipe for one day and one night, and the traveler could do so for three days.'

میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے موزوں پر مسح کے متعلق پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا: علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس جاؤ، اور ان سے پوچھو، اس لیے کہ وہ اس مسئلہ کو مجھ سے زیادہ بہتر جانتے ہیں، چنانچہ میں علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آیا اور ان سے مسح کے متعلق سوال کیا تو انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہم کو حکم دیتے تھے کہ مقیم ایک دن اور ایک رات، اور مسافر تین دن تک مسح کرے۔
