When 'Adi bin Hatim رضی اللہ عنہ came to Kufah, we came to him with a delegation of the Fuqaha of Kufah and said to him: 'Tell us of something that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).' He said: 'I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said: O 'Adi bin Hatim, enter Islam and you will be safe. I said, What is Islam? He said: To testify to La ilaha illallah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and to believe in all the Divine Decrees, the good of them and the bad of them, the sweet of them and the bitter of them.

عدی بن حاتم رضی اللہ عنہ جب کوفہ آئے تو ہم اہل کوفہ کے چند فقہاء کے ساتھ ان کے پاس گئے، اور ہم نے ان سے کہا: آپ ہم سے کوئی حدیث بیان کیجئے جسے آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی ہو، تو وہ کہنے لگے: میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا، تو آپ نے فرمایا: اے عدی بن حاتم! اسلام لے آؤ، سلامت رہو گے ، میں نے پوچھا: اسلام کیا ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اسلام یہ ہے کہ تم اس بات کی گواہی دو کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں، اور میں اللہ کا رسول ہوں، اور ساری تقدیر پر ایمان لاؤ، چاہے اچھی ہو، بری ہو، میٹھی ہو، کڑوی ہو ۔
