The Book Of The Prayer For Rain (Kitab al-Istisqa') • Hadith 1177

There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. The Prophet stood for a long time, accompanied by the people. He then bowed, then raised his head, then he bowed and then he raised his head, and again he bowed and prayed two rak'ahs of prayer. In each rak'ah he bowed three times. After bowing for the third time he prostrated himself. He stood for such a long time that some people became unconscious on that occasion and buckets of water had to be poured on them. When he bowed, he said, Allah is most great; and when he raised his head, he said, Allah listens to him who praises Him, till the sun became bright. then he said: The sun and the moon are not eclipsed on account of anyone's death or on account of anyone's birth, but they are two of Allah's signs, He produces dread in His servants by means of them. When they are eclipsed, hasten to prayer.

نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانہ میں سورج گرہن لگا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے لمبا قیام کیا، آپ لوگوں کے ساتھ قیام میں رہے پھر رکوع میں رہے، پھر قیام میں رہے پھر رکوع میں رہے پھر قیام میں رہے پھر رکوع میں رہے اس طرح آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دو رکعتیں پڑھیں ہر رکعت میں آپ نے تین تین رکوع کیا ۱؎ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تیسرا رکوع کرتے پھر سجدہ کرتے یہاں تک کہ آپ کے لمبے قیام کے باعث اس دن کچھ لوگوں کو ( کھڑے کھڑے ) غشی طاری ہو گئی اور ان پر پانی کے ڈول ڈالے گئے، جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم رکوع کرتے تو «الله أكبر» کہتے اور جب رکوع سے سر اٹھاتے تو «سمع الله لمن حمده» کہتے یہاں تک کہ سورج روشن ہو گیا پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: کسی کے مرنے یا جینے کی وجہ سے سورج یا چاند میں گرہن نہیں لگتا بلکہ یہ دونوں اللہ کی نشانیاں ہیں، ان کے ذریعہ اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے بندوں کو ڈراتا ہے لہٰذا جب ان دونوں میں گرہن لگے تو تم نماز کی طرف دوڑو ۔
