Narrator: It was narrated from Abu Hurairah رضی اللہ عنہ that:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِمَارَةُ بْنُ زَاذَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، حَدَّثَنَاعَطَاءٌ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَحْفَظُ عِلْمًا فَيَكْتُمُهُ، إِلَّا أُتِيَ بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مُلْجَمًا بِلِجَامٍ مِنَ النَّارِ .

The Prophet said: There is no man who memorizes knowledge then conceals it, but he will be brought forth on the Day of Resurrection bridled with reins of fire. (Hasan) Another chain with similar wording.

Narrator: It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Hurmuz Al-A'raj heard Abu Hurairah رضی اللہ عنہ say:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الأَعْرَجِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ لَوْلاَ آيَتَانِ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى مَا حَدَّثْتُ عَنْهُ - يَعْنِي عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ - شَيْئًا أَبَدًا لَوْلاَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ} إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَتَيْنِ ( سورة البقرة: 174-175 ) .

By Allah, were it not for two Verses in the Book of Allah, I would never have narrated anything from him, meaning from the Prophet, were it not for the Words of Allah: Verily, those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book, and purchase a small gain therewith (of worldly things), they eat into their bellies nothing but fire. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify them, and theirs will be a painful torment. Those are they who have purchased error at the price of guidance, and torment at the price of forgiveness. So how bold they are (for evil deeds which will push them) to the Fire.'

اللہ کی قسم! اگر قرآن کریم کی دو آیتیں نہ ہوتیں تو میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کبھی بھی کوئی نہ حدیث بیان کرتا، اور دو آیتیں یہ ہیں: «إن الذين يكتمون ما أنزل الله من الكتاب» إلى آخر الآيتين بیشک جو لوگ اللہ کی اتاری ہوئی کتاب کو چھپاتے ہیں اور اس کے بدلہ میں معمولی قیمت لیتے ہیں، وہ اپنے پیٹ میں جہنم کی آگ بھر رہے ہیں، قیامت کے دن اللہ نہ تو ان سے بات کرے گا اور نہ ہی ان کو معاف کرے گا، اور ان کو سخت عذاب پہنچے گا، یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے گمراہی کو ہدایت کے بدلے خرید لیا اور عذاب کو مغفرت کے بدلے، پس وہ کیا ہی صبر کرنے والے ہیں جہنم پر ( سورة البقرة: 174-175 ) ۔

Narrator: It was narrated that Jabir رضی اللہ عنہ said:
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ السَّرِيِّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا لَعَنَ آخِرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ أَوَّلَهَا فَمَنْ كَتَمَ حَدِيثًا فَقَدْ كَتَمَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ .

The Messenger of Allah said: 'When the last people of this Ummah curse the first, (at that time) whoever conceals a Hadith will be concealing what Allah has revealed.' (Maudu')

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب اس امت کے خلف ( بعد والے ) اپنے سلف ( پہلے والوں ) کو برا بھلا کہنے لگیں، تو جس شخص نے اس وقت ایک حدیث بھی چھپائی اس نے اللہ کا نازل کردہ فرمان چھپایا ۔

Narrator: Yusuf bin Ibrahim said:
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْأَزْهَرِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرَ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: مَنْ سُئِلَ عَنْ عِلْمٍ فَكَتَمَهُ، أُلْجِمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِلِجَامٍ مِنْ نَارٍ .

'I heard Anas bin Malik رضی اللہ عنہ say: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Whoever is asked about knowledge and conceals it, it will be bridled on the Day of Resurrection with reins of fire.'

Narrator: It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri رضی اللہ عنہ said:
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ حِبَّانَ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ أَبُو إِسْحَاق الْوَاسِطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَابٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَنْ كَتَمَ عِلْمًا مِمَّا يَنْفَعُ اللَّهُ بِهِ فِي أَمْرِ النَّاسِ فِي الدِّينِ، أَلْجَمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِلِجَامٍ مِنَ النَّارِ .

The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever conceals knowledge which Allah has made beneficial for mankind's affairs of religion, Allah will bridle him with reins of fire on the Day of Resurrection.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَفْصِ بْنِ هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكَرَابِيسِيُّ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَنْ سُئِلَ عَنْ عِلْمٍ فَكَتَمَهُ، أُلْجِمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِلِجَامٍ مِنْ نَارٍ .

Narrator: It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather that:
حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الرُّخَامِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ كَاتِبُ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الْعُرْبَانِ ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ الْعُرْبَانُ: أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَ الرَّجُلُ دَابَّةً بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ، فَيُعْطِيَهُ دِينَارَيْنِ عُرْبُونًا، فَيَقُولُ: إِنْ لَمْ أَشْتَرِ الدَّابَّةَ فَالدِّينَارَانِ لَكَ، وَقِيلَ: يَعْنِي وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ، أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَ الرَّجُلُ الشَّيْءَ فَيَدْفَعَ إِلَى الْبَائِعِ دِرْهَمًا، أَوْ أَقَلَّ، أَوْ أَكْثَرَ، وَيَقُولَ: إِنْ أَخَذْتُهُ وَإِلَّا، فَالدِّرْهَمُ لَكَ.

The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade the deal involving earnest money. (Hasan)Abu 'Abdullah said: Earnest money refers to when a man buys an animal for one hundred Dinar, then he gives the seller two Dinar in advance and says: If I do not buy the animal, then the two Dinar are yours. And it was said that it refers, and Allah knows best, to when a man buys something, and gives the seller a Dirham or less or more, and says: If I take it (all well and good), and if I do not, then the Dirham is yours.

نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ( عربان کی بیع ) سے منع فرمایا ہے۔ ابوعبداللہ ( ابن ماجہ ) کہتے ہیں کہ عربان: یہ ہے کہ آدمی ایک جانور سو دینار میں خریدے، اور بیچنے والے کو اس میں سے دو دینار بطور بیعانہ دیدے، اور کہے: اگر میں نے جانور نہیں لیا تو یہ دونوں دینار تمہارے ہیں۔ بعض لوگوں نے کہا ہے واللہ اعلم: ( عربان یہ ہے کہ ) آدمی ایک چیز خریدے پھر بیچنے والے کو ایک درہم یا زیادہ یا کم دے، اور کہے اگر میں نے یہ چیز لے لی تو بہتر، ورنہ یہ درہم تمہارا ہے۔
