Two persons set out on a journey. Meanwhile the time of prayer came and they had no water. They performed tayammum with clean earth and prayed. Later on they found water within the time of the prayer. One of them repeated the prayer and ablution but the other did not repeat. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and related the matter to him. Addressing himself to the one who did not repeat, he said: You followed the sunnah (model behavior of the Prophet) and your (first) prayer was enough for you. He said to the one who performed ablution and repeated: For you there is the double reward. Abu Dawud said: Besides Ibn Nafi this is transmitted by al-Laith from Umairah bin Abi Najiyyah from Bakr bin Sawadah on the authority of Ata bin Yasar from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. Abu Dawud said: The mention of (the name of the Companion) Abu Saeed رضی اللہ عنہ in this tradition is not guarded. This is a mural tradition (i.e. the Successor Ata bin Yasar directly narrates it from the Prophet, leaving the name of the Companion in the chain. )

دو شخص ایک سفر میں نکلے تو نماز کا وقت آ گیا اور ان کے پاس پانی نہیں تھا، چنانچہ انہوں نے پاک مٹی سے تیمم کیا اور نماز پڑھی، پھر وقت کے اندر ہی انہیں پانی مل گیا تو ان میں سے ایک نے نماز اور وضو دونوں کو دوہرایا، اور دوسرے نے نہیں دوہرایا، پھر دونوں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے تو ان دونوں نے آپ سے اس کا ذکر کیا، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس شخص سے فرمایا جس نے نماز نہیں لوٹائی تھی: تم نے سنت کو پا لیا اور تمہاری نماز تمہیں کافی ہو گئی ، اور جس شخص نے وضو کر کے دوبارہ نماز پڑھی تھی اس سے فرمایا: تمہارے لیے دوگنا ثواب ہے ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: ابن نافع کے علاوہ دوسرے لوگ اس حدیث کو لیث سے، وہ عمیر بن ابی ناجیہ سے، وہ بکر بن سوادہ سے، وہ عطاء بن یسار سے، وہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ( مرسلاً ) روایت کرتے ہیں۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اس حدیث میں ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کا ذکر محفوظ نہیں ہے، یہ مرسل ہے۔
